“Listen, listen, listen,” all the nuts said. “Goober, someone is calling you. Do you know who is calling?” they asked.
Goober could feel his shell tightening. Little drops of peanut sweat started running down the seam of his shell. The two peanut fruits within him began shaking slightly, making a muted knocking sound that he thought everyone might hear.
“No,” replied Goober. I have no idea who is calling. I’m sure it’s nobody I know.”
Goober did not want to give up his dream of joining the real nuts. It was better to say something that wasn’t true, he thought.
